Cara DeVito is an Emmy award winning Documentary Film Producer
with over 30 years experience, including 20 years as a Staff Editor and Video Journalist for NBC Network News in NYC.
Her work has been broadcast on PBS and NBC, exhibited at the Museum of Modern Art in NYC, The Chicago Art Institute, and it’s European traveling Exhibitions, as well as numerous film festivals such as Chicago Film Festival, Houston Film Festival, Columbus Film
Festival, International Film and TV Festival, and the Cuban Film Festival.
She received an Emmy for Editing the 16 mm film “What Could You Do With A Nickel”— the story of Black and Latin Women in the South Bronx forming the first domestic workers union. As well as an Emmy nomination for Best Film for “What Could You Do With a Nickel”.
She received a Nieman Fellowship at Harvard University (awarded to
12 domestic and 12. International journalists for outstanding work)
and 2 Fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts,
grants from the New York State Council for the Arts, The Eastman Fund, The Foundation for Independent Video and Film in NYC,
The Playboy Foundation, the North Star Fund and The Bronx Council on the Arts.
She lives in Saugerties, NY in a co-housing community, and takes joy in endeavors that nurture cooperative communities.
